Interviewer: Good day, I am Elizabeth Fawunmi a member of Psychlens Press.
I would like to conduct an interview with you in respect to your position as the Assistant General Secretary.
Can you introduce yourself please?
Interviewee: My name is Taiwo Jesulayomi, a 200 level student of the Psychology department, and also the Assistant General Secretary of the Nigerian Association of Psychology Students.
Interviewer: Alright, to the first question, can you intimate us about your roles as the Assistant general Secretary of the Nigerian association of psychology student?
Interviewee: According to the constitution; my roles are:
- Serving as an assistant to the association week committee.
- Assisting the General Secretary
- Carrying out any role assigned to me by the President or General Secretary.
- Keeping and updating Naps assets.
- And mark attendance for all executive meetings.
Interviewer: Alright, let me ask what motivated you to run for this position?
Interviewee: The willingness to serve, and at the time it was the only position available to people in my level.
Interviewer: How do you support the General secretary and the entire executive team?
Interviewee: Well, the General Secretary and the rest of the team have been amazing since the start.
I assist them in any way I can, mostly in things that are delegated to me.
Interviewer: Can you please tell us some of these things?
Interviewee: Writing and delivering letters when necessary, documenting all minutes of our meetings and plans as an executive body.
Interviewer: good, so since you assumed office, what initiative have you brought to life?
Interviewee: The help desk committee, I was able to create an online help desk for the 100 level students where they could launch their complains.
I was also able to establish a monthly feedback system, between NAPSITES and the executives
Interviewer: so a follow up question to that is, what can you say has been your greatest achievement since you took this position?
Interviewee: Connecting with the Freshers and effectively serving NAPSITES. With the help of the executive team of course.
Interviewer: have you faced any challenge in your role?and how were you able to handle them?
Interviewee: Well, one challenge I faced was the functionality of the help desk. People preferred to text me directly than going through the help desk, however I tried to put the help desk out there a little more.
Despite it not being exactly what I had in mind, it was something.
Interviewer: So were you able to get them to use the help desk rather than chatting you,I mean how did you handle it?
Interviewee: Well, I tried to redirect people's attention to the help desk, but it wasn't entirely successful.
Interviewer: Ok few more questions to go,so what advice do you have for a student that wants to take up a leadership role?
Interviewee: I would say, be ready to serve, commit to doing your duties, and have a reason for wanting to take up the position.
Interviewer: to my last question, how do you balance academics and executive duties?
Interviewee: Well, I think knowing how to effectively manage time, and I tried to give priority to my academics because that's my primary responsibility as a student before being an executive.
Interviewer: Alright, we have come to the end of this interview. Thank you for taking the time to speak with us.
