AN INTERVIEW WITH THE NAPS ASSISTANT GENERAL SECRETARY

“I Assure NAPSites They Will Have a Session to Remember”

PRESSMAN: Please tell us a little about yourself.

OBAYEMI DAVID OLUWATOBI: My name is Obayemi David Oluwatobi a 200-level psychology student and also the Assistant General Secretary of NAPS.

PSYCHLENS: What determined your decision to apply for a psychology program at the University of Ibadan?

OBAYEMI DAVID OLUWATOBI: Well it has always been my dream to study psychology, I have had an interest in the course since my secondary school days I spent most of my time reading psychology books and seeing psychology-related movies which further increased my interest in psychology.

PSYCHLENS: In your last interview with NAPS, you briefly discussed your business. Can you speak more on that? What business are you in? 

OBAYEMI DAVID OLUWATOBI: I am a phone technician and I also deal with sales of Apple products mostly iPhones.

PSYCHLENS: Do you intend to go further with your psychology degree? 

OBAYEMI DAVID OLUWATOBI: Not sure at the moment, but as I progress in the field I will get my mind made up if will go further after bagging my first degree in psychology 

PSYCHLENS: How do you balance your academics, business and now executive duties? 

OBAYEMI DAVID OLUWATOBI: The three different things are interconnected and the best way to ensure I perform at maximum capacity in each area is to avoid any one of them getting in the way of the other which boils down to time management. It is being disciplined enough to spend my time judiciously. 

PSYCHLENS: What should NAPSites expect from the office of the Assistant General Secretary? 

OBAYEMI DAVID OLUWATOBI: Well NAPSites should be expectant of great things. But these great things won’t come from my office alone, they will come from all the executives because we are a unit and we work together in the best interest of NAPS. 

PSYCHLENS: Yes, naturally. But what can we expect from the office of the assistant general secretary in particular? 

OBAYEMI DAVID OLUWATOBI: Well, I wouldn’t want to let the cat out of the bag by telling you all we have planned, but I assure NAPSites that at the end of the day, they will all have a session to remember.

PSYCHLENS: In your interview, you spoke very strongly about leadership. What has been your leadership journey up until this point? 

OBAYEMI DAVID OLUWATOBI: Leadership is a journey. A journey I didn’t start yesterday. Leadership is also a quality which I was exposed to at a tender age where I was the captain in both my primary and secondary school. The leadership qualities I gained during this period are what I have nurtured till today
