An Interview with the Newly Elected Social Director.

Pressman: Good evening, I'm Akande Aanuoluwapo, a PsychLens member. I would like to have an interview with you. Can you introduce yourself please?

Miss Obadan Mary: Good evening Aanuoluwapo, my name is Obadan Mary. I am in 200 level. If there is anything that you would like to know, please feel free to ask me.

Pressman: Alright.

So, why did you decide to vie for the position of social director?

Miss obadan Mary: I've always liked to organize people and events so I liked the idea of  becoming a social director especially after being a member of the social committee last session.

Initially, I wanted to stay away but after lots of pushing from friends, course mates and a few other departmental members, I decided to go for the post especially after knowing that the post wasn't occupied from the last election.

Pressman: That's nice but according to the press live recording of the NPHR sitting, you were accused of been rude to one of the former executives while serving as a member of the social committee last session. Would you say your action was justified?

Miss Obadan Mary: Well, I was not rude to any executive during the last session, I was basically carrying out my duties.

I was put in charge of food and I made sure that the food was kept in good shape before and during the event. After the event, it was very evident that I and the team of people that worked with me did an excellent job as everyone was well fed and catered for.

Pressman: Alright. As the newly elected Social Director, what plans do you have in mind for NAPSites?

Miss Obadan Mary: I plan to organize social events like picnic, a themed event for next session and other social events that the executive council will be planning for the session.

2. I will incorporate a system that balances fun and professional growth by working hand in hand with the president in organizing webinars, workshops and guest speakers that will offer both learning and networking opportunities for students of the department.

3) Effective communication about events in the department is one of the plans I have in order to prepare their minds for the event that will place in the semester.

I plan on making inclusivity my watch word as I will ensure that everyone feels welcome and comfortable while participating in events of the department.

I am very open to feedback and suggestions from NAPSites, as they are the reason I am here.

Pressman: Thank you for mentioning your plans but don't you think what you just said were your duties as a social director and they are not really your plans?

Miss Obadan Mary: My first response here has stated my plans.

Oh I forgot to add that I will make sure that my budgets are cost effective.

I and my team will look for creative ways to maximize resources at all cost.

Pressman: okay.

What challenges do you think NAPSites are facing when it comes to participation in social activities and do you plan on solving them?

Miss Obadan Mary: Many NAPSites I have spoken to have stated that many events are not modeled to their taste, they say that there is a "classism" in some of the events. Asides that, I think improper  timing/ communication is another thing that NAPSites face.

Improper timing In the sense that events are planned and communicated to the public in short notice. I think that NAPSites need inclusivity or inclusiveness as the case may be. I think if many NAPSites are given activities to be in control of, they will show up at events.

If NAPSites opinions are asked and implemented,  NAPSites will be happy to be at social events.

These are my thoughts.

Pressman: This is nice but how do you plan on making sure that these events are modeled to their taste?

Miss Obadan Mary: I will carry out surveys, mostly one on one because that's when you can read the expressions on their faces.

Then merge these ideas into something that everyone can be proud they contributed into.

Pressman: That's a really good idea that would enhance inclusivity.

In your manifesto, you mentioned that social gatherings won’t just be about entertainment.

Please how do you plan to go about this?

Miss Obadan Mary: I have stated here that I will be working with the president  and the other executives to have events that include learning and fun at once.

Watch out for our upcoming event. I’ve given you small hint, don't let me ruin the surprise

Pressman: Alright

We can't wait for the surprise event then.

Pressman: Lastly, what are the challenges that you think you may face during your tenure as the Social Director?

Miss Obadan Mary: While I have several exciting ideas for events that I believe NAPSites would truly enjoy, I understand that we may encounter budget limitations from the association that may lead to the executive and the house putting a stop to some plans.

Nevertheless, we remain hopeful and are dedicated to maximizing our resources to create memorable experiences. We'll explore cost-effective options, seek sponsorships if possible, and prioritize initiatives that align with our budget while still delivering enjoyable social activities for the department.
