CATCH UP ON THE PSYCHOLYMPICS

Although the Psycholympics was scheduled to start at 1 pm, it started around 1.49 pm with the indoor games and even though there weren't a variety of indoor games, the participants enjoyed playing and competing with each other as they participated in the games of WHOT, Ludo and scrabble.

In the first round of the WHOT tournament, Joel, a 100-level student won, and in the second round of WHOT was won by the RT. Hon. Raphael (the speaker of the NPHR) and the third round was won by a non-Napsite.

The game of Ludo’s first round was won by Adetayo Tejuoso, a 100-level student. He also won the second round. The third round which involved two 100-level female students was won by Odeyemi Mercy Irorunoluwa.

Track events kick-started around 3 pm with the 100m race. The 100-level students were represented by Joel and Fifehanmi, the 200-level students were represented by Ayinde Samuel(sparrow), the 300-level students were represented by Major and Samuel Koleosho and the 400-level students were represented by Omowole Praise.

Although the athletes did their best, they were no match for the sparrow, the 100-level representative as he came first in the 100m race. Major, representing the 300-level students came second and after consulting the VAR (which was the PRO's phone), the third position was awarded to Samuel, the 300-level class rep.

Moving on to the 200m race, the 100-level students were represented by UPGO and Femi, the 200-level students were represented by Sparrow, Subomi and Western and the 300-level students were represented by Rasheed. There was no representative for 400-level students.

The 200-level representatives made their classmates proud by coming in first and second place. Western made the first position, Sparrow came second and Rasheed, the 300-level representative made the third place.

The Psycholympics was not an all-male event as a female 100m race also took place. 100-level students were represented by Oluwanifemi, the 200-level students were represented by Subomi and the 300-level students were represented by Jubeelo.

Although the 300-level representative fell as the face began, she still preserved to make the 3rd place. Oluwanifemi, the 100-level representative came second and 200-level students were made proud again as their representative (Subomi) came first.

After the female event, a giveaway was conducted and questions were asked about the department's football players and events. 2000 naira and 2 tickets to the UI SU variety night (this was sponsored by Sammy, 300 level class rep) were promised to be given to the winners of the giveaway. It was during this time that Zobo and doughnuts were shared.

After the giveaway, the relay race was held. The 100-level students were represented by UPGO, Joel, Fife and Moses. The 200-level students were represented by Subomi, Sparrow, Sammy and Western. The 300-level students were represented by Jubeelo, Rasheed, Sammy(the class Rep) and Adetayo.

Again, the 200-level representative came first, followed by the 100-level representatives and the 300-level representatives came last. Hence, it was no surprise that the 200-level representatives were awarded the overall winner of the sports competition at the end of the event.

The novelty march which was scheduled to be held by 4 pm did not later hold as the field was been used by some other people. So, at the end of the event, participants who engaged in one form of sport or the other were awarded certificates.
