Political apathy refers to a lack of interest or concern for politics and political issues. It is a widespread problem in many countries, even in advanced countries, where many people feel disconnected from the political process and do not see how it affects their lives. However, political apathy can have severe consequences for individuals and society.

Although political apathy exists in advanced countries, it is worse in Africa. Many Nigerians do not care about the 2023 elections and the results they might bring. Many youths tagged "the leaders of tomorrow" are interested in nothing but football on the day of the elections. While some people believe their votes do not count, others are not interested in voting based on past experiences or nonchalance. Unknown to these people, their decision not to exercise their voting rights as citizens only puts them in more danger.

One of the dangers of political apathy is that it can lead to a lack of participation in the political process. People who are not engaged in politics are less likely to vote, attend town hall meetings, or engage with their elected representatives. This can lead to low voter turnout and a lack of representation for certain groups in the political system.

Political apathy can also undermine the ability of a democracy to function effectively. In a democratic system, the government is supposed to represent the people's will. However, people are not engaged in politics. In that case, they are less likely to hold their representatives accountable and ensure that they make decisions that reflect the people's will. This can lead to a lack of transparency and accountability in government and an erosion of democratic norms.

According to Plato, "The price of apathy towards public affairs is to be ruled by evil men". Therefore, to avoid the dangerous adverse effects of political apathy, Nigerians need to wake up, get their permanent voters' card, and VOTE WISELY!
