Dean's Roll of Honour List: A Prize for Excellence

The Dean’s Roll of Honour is a sessional event where outstanding students with first-class grades are awarded for Excellence. There is one common statement that comes up in this event ‘…above all odds…’ and truly speaking, we can say above all odds; coming to class every day, reading overnight, reading on an empty stomach, this is the life of students but above all this, these students were able to meet up the school requirements for first-class grades. Most surprisingly, we have students who have been on this list from their first year in the department and they still maintained it. The faculty deemed it fit to award these students for their perseverance and for making it up to this point.

In this session, the faculty chose to tie the event with the freshers’ orientation, this is to encourage the freshers and make them understand that the faculty is not preaching impossibility to them when they are talking about academic excellence, it is something that can be achieved.

It is also worth noting that the Department of Psychology has the highest number of awardees and some students were not awarded because their information was got late, although the departments were not specified, the Dean of the faculty, Professor E.E. Nwokocha apologized for this, and promised to award them later on.

Let’s hear from Miss Temilade, an awardee from 400-level Psychology.

Interviewer: How do you feel making it to the list?

Miss Temilade: Thank you so much for the question

I would say, I feel grateful, happy, and joyful to have made it to the list. Making it to the list required a lot of effort and sacrifices and I am so happy it brought forth good results that I celebrate today.

Interviewer: How did you manage to make the list?

Miss Temilade: I would say I managed to make the list with the help of God, by challenging myself to do more and by understanding myself more. In the previous sessions, I would say Time management was hard for me but when I sat down to understand myself, I found it easy for me.

Interviewer: What do you have to say about the award

Miss Temilade: The award to me serves as another reason for me to be scared…Lol. It serves as a motivator for me and it is a nice experience.

Interviewer: What do you have to say to Napsites, most especially the freshers

Miss Temilade: NAPSites, I would say you should sit down to understand yourself and what works for you, develop a reading timetable and be diligent with it, and above all commit your ways into the hand of God, I will leave you with James 1:5.
