DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY LEADS WITH HIGHEST NUMBER OF FIRST-CLASS STUDENTS AT DEAN ’s ROLL OF HONOUR

By Anoffering

The Department of Psychology emerged as the top-performing department at the Faculty of the Social Sciences Dean’s Roll of Honour ceremony, recording the highest number of students on First Class across all levels.

Held on April 7 at the Large Lecture Theatre (LLT), University of Ibadan, the event commenced at 11:20am, with the rendition of the national and university anthems, drawing students, lecturers, and faculty officials.

During the award presentation, the department stood out with the largest number of honourees, earning commendation from the Sub-Dean, Dr. Olufuke Adegoke. While announcing awardees, she affirmed the department’s performance, noting that it aligned with earlier remarks by the Dean, and encouraged the students to “keep it up.” Christopher Sandra Chibudu was announced as the overall best student in the department.

However, the recognition process was met with concerns, as some students reported on First Class across levels that were not acknowledged. Additionally, there were questions surrounding the selection of the overall best student in the department, with some attendees pointing to a lack of clarity in the process.

While the ceremony celebrated academic excellence, these concerns underscored the need for greater transparency and accuracy in future editions. Nonetheless, the Department of Psychology’s performance remained a defining highlight, reflecting its strong and consistent academic culture.
