ELECTION RESULT: LOW TURNOUT DOES NOT INVALIDATE RESULTS

Lightpen

At exactly 7:03 a.m. this morning, the result for the election conducted yesterday for the executive offices and the NPHR was released. As previously released, the election turnout was very low, we had 84 Napsites voting out of 260 eligible voters. This turnout is quite alarming and raises a question about the interest of napsites and their active participation in the department's decision-making.

According to the result released, the presidential aspirant, the vice-president aspirant, and the General Secretary aspirant were elected as the votes were in their favour and they had a few undecided. It is important to note that there are no opponents for these offices. Mr Onyekachi emerged as the winner for the office of the Assistant General Secretary with 48 votes, while Miss Chineye lost the election with a total of 28 votes.

The breakdown of the NPHR election was included in the result as well. Included in the release is the vacant position of the office of Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Sport Director, P.R.O. and Social Director. The electoral committee stated in the result that the filling of these offices will be in accordance with the procedures laid down in the constitution.
