ELECTION SEASON OPENS WITH LOW CAMPAIGN ACTIVITIES

The INDEPENDENT NAPS ELECTORAL COMMISSION (INEC) lifted the ban on campaign for political positions and for the sale of electoral forms from Monday, 29th September, 2025, to Friday, 11th October, 2025, for political aspirants. 

The forms were stated to be sold at #3,000 for president, Vice President and general secretary; #2,500 for other executive positions, and #1,500 for NAPS House of Representatives (NPHR). In the memo, the criteria which a student of psychology must possess to be considered for the purchase were stated. Any student who would like to run for the position of president and Vice President must have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.5, and for other executive positions, a CGPA of 2.0 is required.

The positions were open to all levels except the 100 level, which can only run for the position of the Assistant General Secretary (AGS), and the NPHR candidates will be voted for by their classmates, and they must belong to 100,200,300 levels. 

But, so far, the candidates who have been actively campaigning with fliers and talking to people about their ambition are Idunmah Marvellous, a 200-Level contestant for the post of Vice President. And also, Kalu Eberechukwu Nancy, a 300-level Student, is contesting for the position of President.

Among many other executive positions, such as General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary, Public Relations Officer, Social Director, etc, these two candidates have been noticed. A student of psychology said, “It’s only Marvel and Ebere’s flyer I have seen, since the lifting of the ban.” Student turnout has been really low, nobody is coming out to contest for any position. 

The sales were stated to close yesterday, though we are yet to know the number of people who purchased the forms, but the low activities during this period question whether students are afraid of taking up the responsibility or if NAPSITES are apathetic?
