ENTERTAINMENT: A Snapshot of the Fourth Week in March at the University of Ibadan

The University of Ibadan continues to affirm its long-standing reputation as a hub of intellectual rigor and vibrant student life. The week of March 23–29, 2026, offers a compelling snapshot of this identity, presenting a well-balanced intersection of scholarly discourse and socio-cultural engagement that reflects the institution’s dual commitment to academic excellence and community vitality.

At the forefront of academic programming is the 608th Inaugural Lecture, scheduled for March 26 at Trenchard Hall. To be delivered by Professor I. E. Ukpokolo of the Department of Philosophy, the lecture, themed “Therapeutic Philosophy and Knowledge Discovery,” underscores the university’s tradition of fostering deep intellectual inquiry. Far from being ceremonial, inaugural lectures at UI serve as critical platforms for distilling years of research into accessible discourse, often bridging disciplinary boundaries.

Complementing this is a high-level security discourse slated for March 25th, at the Senior Staff Club. Focused on the trajectory of national security in Nigeria, the forum situates the university within broader socio-political conversations, reinforcing its role not only as a center of learning but also as an active contributor to national policy dialogue.
