Experience Prevails: Staylites Dominate Freshers in Friendly Match

By Caleb Faniyan

The executive council members of the National Association of Psychology Students, UI Chapter, hosted a friendly football match as part of their welcome program for the newly admitted psychology freshmen. The friendly game was played on Saturday, 6th of July, 2024 on one of the Student Union building’s (SUB) training pitches. By 4 pm, the training pitch was packed with the eager freshmen, their classmates and supporters, staylites, and the sports director.

Each team was made up of 7 players and a goalkeeper due to the size of the pitch. The game began in no time with both teams trying to put the ball past each other’s net. The freshmen, despite being their first time playing together, put up a fight as they defended and attacked in unison. However, before long, the goals started flying in. The staylites opened the scoreline with a shot that put the ball past the freshers’ goalkeeper.

After a few minutes of attacks and counter-attacks from both teams, more goals were scored, with the staylites taking the lead. The freshers managed to put two goals past the staylites’ net in a show of brilliance. However, after 60 minutes of football split into two halves, the referee blew the final whistle. By this time, the staylites had already scored six goals, compared to the freshers’ two. The game ended and the sports director thanked both teams for their presence, promising more football matches soon.
