FRESHERS GIVEN AN OFFICIAL WELCOME AT THE NAPS TALKFEST

The anticipated freshers’ welcome continued on the 11th of November, 2022 with 'Talkfest' as the theme of the day. The purpose of the program was not only to serve as a welcome party for the freshers but also to serve as an avenue for them to get the necessary information. The program began with opening prayers and the recitation of the National Anthem. Afterwad, a short speech was given by the NAPS president Oluwadamilare where an introduction of all the NAPS executives was also given.

The HOD Professor A.O Adejumo was invited to give a talk by the undergraduate coordinator Dr. Abel Obosi, who was also the facilitator for the event. The HOD gave a rundown of the teaching staff and non-teaching staff in the department and their areas of specialization. Some lecturers present at the TalkFest include; Professor Catherine Chovwen, Dr. Sylvester Okakhume, Professor B. O Olley, and Professor N. A Shenge, Professor A. I Alarape, Professor B. O Ehigie, etc.

Some of the lecturers available addressed and gave some words of advice to the freshers. They encouraged them to practice time management, have good comportment in class, dress in appropriate clothes at all times, try and lay a good foundation from their first year, and know who they are, where they are going and why they are here. Freshers were also encouraged to reach out to someone whenever they feel down, practice self-care, choose their priorities wisely, SMART goal setting, and many other nuggets of advice.

The freshers were given a brief on the registration guidelines and were able to ask questions on areas that were unclear to them. They were also addressed by a recent first-class graduate of the department Salome, who gave an insight into how she achieved her result and also answered any questions they had. The editor-in-chief of the department press gave a short speech about what the press is all about.

The event ended with refreshments being shared with every attendee, closing prayers were said and the event was brought to an end.
