GETTING TO KNOW THE INCUMBENT PRESIDENT OF NAPS, UI

“Your interpretation of failure will determine if you will eventually succeed or not”~ President Awe Albert Oluwadamilare

President Awe Albert Oluwadamilare is a 400level student of the department of psychology, University of Ibadan. In addition to this, he is the Incumbent President of NAPS, UI. This interview gives an insight into who the President of NAPS, UI is.

Psychlens: Good Afternoon sir. I'm Vivian from Psychlens and I would like to ask you some questions.

Mr. President: Good afternoon ma. OK ma

Psychlens: Please can you introduce yourself and a brief biography about yourself

Mr. President: My name is Awe Albert Oluwadamilare, a 400level student of the department of psychology, University of Ibadan.

The firstborn from a family of 4, I am from Osun state had my primary education at command primary school oshodi, Lagos Nigeria, and my secondary education at Command Day Secondary school oshodi, Lagos Nigeria.

Psychlens: That's great. Can you confirm that you are the current president of the National Association of Psychology Students, University of Ibadan?

Mr. President: Yes, I am the current President of the Nigerian Association of Psychology Students, University of Ibadan.

Psychlens: How would you describe your tenure so far?

Mr. President: Well, so far. I would say it has been great, as we all know that freshers came in and all focus has been on giving the freshers a great welcome and it has been quite a successful one with the help of my team and other Napsites assisting with this task. Also, we have had meetings with the Departmental management to inform them of our plans and execution will begin as soon as possible. So far it has been great.

Psychlens: That's good to know. Do you have any experience(s) in leadership either in NAPS or elsewhere?

Mr. President: Yes, I do, Before I got admission into the University of Ibadan, I coordinated students at a tutorial center for tutorials, I have also served as the Assistant welfare officer of my church choir back in Lagos.

When I got into the department of psychology, University of Ibadan I served as the Assistant General Secretary of Nigerian Association of Psychology Students in my 200level days, and last session I was an Honourable in the Naps House of Representatives representing 300level constituency

Psychlens: Have these your past experiences helped you in any way during this current tenure

Mr. President: Yes, the past experiences have really helped me a lot in terms of organization and coordination.

Psychlens: Could please give examples of situations you used knowledge from your past experiences

Mr. President: Generally when it comes to making decisions about certain issues I make sure that I don't take any decision alone and I tell my council members everything that is happening in detail because I have learned from experience that not carrying the people you work with along can be very dangerous we all have to make the decisions together. And also, from experience.

Psychlens: Are you into any extracurricular activities?

Mr. President: No, I am not.

Psychlens: Okay. Do you have any hobbies?

Mr. President Yes, I do. I love traveling, reading, and seeing movies

Psychlens: Interesting. Have you been to any fascinating places?

Mr. President: Yes, I have been to ikogosi waterfalls (the warm and cold spring) and one other waterfall I can't remember the name. I still have more places I would still explore and that will be when I have graduated from UI.

Psychlens: That's great. How do you create time for your hobbies and responsibilities?

Mr. President: Actually, I do a timetable for myself to help me balance everything so I have a period to rest and a period for hobbies I have also learned from experience the power of delegation of duties, so some tasks I delegate to my council members to reduce the workload on me.

Psychlens: That sounds informative. As the current president of the association, NAPSites would love to know are you single (ready to mingle or not) or in a relationship, is it complicated, or are you in a situationship?

Mr. President: To be honest I didn't see this question coming. Must I answer this question?

Psychlens: We would prefer if you did

Mr. President Ok. I am not single, I am in a relationship

Psychlens: Okay. That's sad for the people who would have wanted to shoot their shots. Apart from being a student, are you engaged in a side hustle?

Mr. President: Yes, I am a photographer but for now I have put my side hustle on hold until I graduate

Psychlens: Okay. Why did you choose to do that?

Mr. President: Hmmm, I choose to do that because combining it with my present position as the President will affect my academics considering this is the last lap, and coupled with the fact that I have a final year project to do I needed to do some restructuring to be balanced.

Psychlens: That sounds reasonable. Do you have any advice for NAPSites who may want to have side hustles during their time in school?

Mr. President: To be sincerely combining entrepreneurship and studentship is very difficult because it's either academics suffer and the side hustle progresses and it could be the other way around. The advice I have for Napsites who may want to have side hustle during their time in school is that they should understand themselves and how easy it is for them to multitask and also, they should try as much as possible not to be engaged in too many extra activities in school. If they know that their academics will suffer for being engaged in a side hustle I would advise holding on till they graduate

Psychlens: Thank you for the advice. Do you have any remarks or words of encouragement for NAPSites?

Mr. President: The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.

To all Napsites failure is not bad it should inky make you stronger but your interpretation of failure will determine if you will eventually succeed or not, each time you fall don't sit there and complain stand up again and again and again until you are tagged a winner.
