INEC RELEASES ELECTORAL GUIDELINES FOR THE 2020/2021 SESSION

Following the lift of the ban of electoral activities on the 15th October 2021, the Independent NAPS Electoral Commission released the criteria and guidelines of the elections later in the day. The criteria given are expected to be met by aspirants of various positions.


These criteria and electoral guidelines provided by the INEC include:


  • Candidates must be registered students of the University of Ibadan and financial members of the National Association of Psychology Students (NAPS) UI

  • Candidates vying for the position of the president, vice president, and the general secretary must have a minimum CGPA of 2.5 and above

  • Candidates vying for other executive positions other than the ones stated above must have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 and above

  • Candidates aspiring to represent their various constituencies at the department house of representatives (NPHR) must have a CGPA of 2.0 and above

  • Aspirants are expected to present a clear copy of their academic transcript during screening except for candidates in 100 level vying for the post of the assistant general secretary

  • Candidates are required to present three reference letters from reputable persons (one from your level advisor, two from persons you are well acquainted with)

  • Candidates are not expected to deface the faculty with their campaign posters and fliers. Defaulters will be outrightly disqualified

  • Aspirants are beseeched to be well behaved throughout the exercise, exhibiting no form of hooliganism and other inappropriate behavior as these would not be tolerated and erring aspirants will be disqualified.


It is important for all aspirants to follow the rules and guidelines in order to ensure a smooth election and transition of power. It is also important to note that even non-aspirants have roles to play to ensure that the election goes without a hitch and that there is a smooth transition of power.
