Insecurity: Oyo State Government Seeks International Help

On Monday, the 14th of November, 2022, the deputy governor of Oyo state, Adebayo Lawal, sought assistance on behalf of the governor of Oyo state, Governor Seyi Makinde, while receiving the new US consul General, Williams Stevens, to battle insecurity that he had observed was a prevalent occurrence in Nigeria.

During the courtesy visit, the Deputy Governor said “We know security is key and we have really deployed a greater percentage of resources into security development”

He went on to mention the local security agents popularly known as “Amotekun”, and how they have been put in place in the community to ensure the safety of the lives and properties of citizens.

The Deputy Governor revealed the state government’s plan to form a partnership with the United States of America to facilitate the improvement of some aspects of the economy such as the agricultural sector, the health sector, and the security sector. He went ahead to applaud the efforts put in place by the United States to fight HIV. The US Consul General, Williams Stevens, also commended the Oyo State Government for the provision of good healthcare services used in battling HIV, in comparison with other states and countries.

Stevens concluded by revealing the United States’ readiness to partner with the Oyo state government to work together in fighting crime and ensuring the security of lives and properties in the community.
