INTERVIEW WITH ANUOLUWAPO ODEWALE DORCAS, AN ASPIRANT FOR THE OFFICE OF NAPS ASSISTANT GENERAL SECRETARY
By FeBi
Interviewer: Please, I would like you to properly introduce yourself.
Miss Anuoluwapo: I'm Anuoluwapo Odewale Dorcas from the 100 level constituency.
Interviewer: Is that all you want us to know?
Miss Anuoluwapo: And I'm vying for the post of AGS in the department of Psychology.
Interviewer: The AGS...
What does the position mean to you?
Miss Anuoluwapo: To me, it's a platform to furthermore contribute to the welfarism of NAPSites
Interviewer: How? In what way because I believe every post is towards our welfarism or not?
Miss Anuoluwapo: I love being in a position to help, assist people, care for them without being suspected of something else. I'm the type that spots people's problems and takes it upon myself to help in any way I can to solve it even if that means going out of my way. But then, it seems too much and at times some people misinterpreted it to be something else.
I hope my story is not too long?
Interviewer: No ma'am, it's fine. So as an AGS how does this work?
Miss Anuoluwapo: Okay, So my point is if you are really the type that loves going out of your way for people, that can lead with love and care, why not go for a leadership position? Contribute your quota to humanity.
Aside from being an assistant to the Gen Sec. The position is a good platform to be closer to incoming freshers and NAPSites as whole. To cater for their welfare.
Interviewer: So you're saying that you possess these loving and caring qualities and that made you go for the position but can a good leader be based on just those qualities?
Miss Anuoluwapo: Nope, a good leader can't be based on that alone. But, in my opinion a good leader must possess that attribute.
Well, I'll say a good leader should be someone with a vision, the person should be able to spot problems and solve them and if unable to solve it. he or she should be able to communicate it with those under the person. A good leader should always think of how to make things better for the people
Interviewer: Yes, for a good leader. Are these the qualities you also possess?
Miss Anuoluwapo: Yes.
Interviewer: Okay, so can you please make a list of those qualities you possess that you think makes you qualified for the post in clear detail?
Miss Anuoluwapo: First and foremost passion, because being in a leadership position is not always easy but sometimes even when I don't feel like it that the passion keeps me going.
Endurance, ọmọ! There've been cases where I just have to endure where I could have acted out.
And the thirst for change, improvement.
Empathy also.
Interviewer: Thank you, Miss Anu.
Miss Anuoluwapo: And also as I said earlier having a vision
And being the type of person that asks for feedback. You can't always be right as a leader. There'll be Blindspot. I try as much as possible to be open to corrections and apologize whenever I'm wrong.
Interviewer: Alright, what problem did you see in Naps that made you go for this position?
Miss Anuoluwapo: Well... As a fresher my eyes saw a lot most of my coursemates can also testify to it.
AIl these because of misinformation. I want to solve that issue of misinformation and create a clear path of receiving information from credible sources.
Interviewer: Misinformation? Can you give an instance of where that happened?
Miss Anuoluwapo: Course combination.
Interviewer: Oh really?
Miss Anuoluwapo: The issue of you must register for every courses that begins with 101. ọmọ! It's not so true o
Interviewer:okay
Miss Anuoluwapo: Yes, when I had issues with my courses and I consulted the course coordinator that was when I knew it wasn't compulsory to take courses that are introductory courses as long as I'm okay with it. But our seniors said it was...
Interviewer: So you want to correct that misinformation part.
Miss Anuoluwapo: I'm not blaming them, just pointing out the error. They probably didn't know too.
Interviewer: Can you tell in practical ways how you would solve the problem and other problem you might likely encounter if you are voted as the AGS.
Miss Anuoluwapo: Yes I can.
I'll acquire information directly from the right source, not from my experience alone. I'll make sure to double verify information before giving it out.
Interviewer: Alright. Are you only going to offer Napsites correct information?
Miss Anuoluwapo: I also plan to develop the E-library.
The past administration already did a great job on it but, it needs regular updating. Some of these courses and the lecturers taking them have been changed.
I'll also provide tips on how to navigate each courses, the mode of teaching of the lecturer taking the courses, mode of questions and other important things worth taking notes or watching out for.
And another thing I noticed is that it's only mainly for academics and it's my belief that our mental health and other aspects are also as important as our academics. I planned to improve it for the holistic development of NAPSites.
I know some of these things they did for us on the day of orientation. I'll make it digitalized and accessible to all NAPSites so that's long as you can read, you can access all these without needing to contact anyone.
Interviewer: Yes, Miss Anuoluwapo
Miss Anuoluwapo: Also tips on how to navigate school life. Advice and so on.
Interviewer: Alright. I understand that you are a 100 level student and the Assistant Course Rep of your level, going for the post of the AGS, you would have to step down from the post of the ACR. How does that feel? And what would you do if you are not voted for?
Miss Anuoluwapo: I do not have to step down so far it is not an executive or legislative position.
However, if I have to, as a human it might feel somehow like a loss because I love discharging my duties as an ACR and I love my coursemates. But then I won't count it as a loss but I'll be grateful for the opportunity I had to lead during the period which I did, the lessons and experience.
And I am not elected it's cool, things don't go as expected sometimes but as a good leader I am of the opinion of accepting situation whatever may happens and learn how to restrategize in every situation.
Sorry I tend to be over expressive sometimes.
The position of ACR actually opened my eyes to other positions... I'll be forever grateful for that no matter the situation.
Interviewer: That is very nice and interesting. So if I hear you correctly, you are not stepping down.
Miss Anuoluwapo: Yes ma'am, unless there is a need to.
Interviewer: Thank you so much for your time Miss Anuolwapo for your time today.
Miss Anuoluwapo: Don't mention, I really appreciate the opportunity.
Interviewer: But before you go, would you please clarify this?
Miss Anuoluwapo: What is that?
Interviewer: How are you going to disseminate the information to our freshers? Is it just through a WhatsApp group?
Miss Anuoluwapo: A WhatsApp group has been created by the vice president through which information can reach them. But, my plan is to create a functional app through which all these informations and resources will be made accessible.
Interviewer: App.. Wow! And you have plans in motion for this?
Miss Anuoluwapo: Yes, I'm sure it'll be better than just an Elibary. And yes plans are in motion we are just waiting for the election proceedings to start the creation.
Interviewer: Great job Miss Anu!
Miss Anuoluwapo: It's nothing, I actually didn't just arrived at this I consulted people some of my coursemates, discussed these problems before I concluded in my heart that the app will be a better option.
Though expensive but an innovative idea if successful, it will outlive even me or my administration if I'm given the opportunity sha. And everything comes with sacrifice. I'm willing to do this just to make sure that type of error or mistake that happens in our time doesn't.
And of course after some time I'll call for feedbacks from those using the app to know where else to improve on it.
Interviewer: Thank you so much for your time. We have come to the end of the interview.
Miss Anuoluwapo: Alright.
