Interview with the NAPS, UI Sports Aspirant

PSYCHLENS PRESS: Good day sir, I'm Caleb from Psychlens Press and I have a few questions regarding your aspirations for an executive position in the Nigerian Association of Psychology Students, UI Chapter. Can you give briefly introduce yourself?

Mr Adebayo: Hi Mr Caleb. I'm Adebayo, a 300l student of Psychology, at UI.

PSYCHLENS PRESS: What position are you vying for in the upcoming NAPS elections?

Mr. Adebayo: The Position of the department's Sports Director.

PSYCHLENS PRESS: Can you briefly explain what spurred your decision to contest for the position of sports director?

Mr Adebayo: Well, I've always been drawn to most things Sport related ever since I was a kid. Ever since my freshmen year, I'd always engaged in one sport or the other, also working with several individuals to organize sporting events or activities.

So yeah, that interest spurred me to want to contest for the position as it'll help me do more personally and for the department.

PSYCHLENS PRESS: According to the NAPS, UI constitution, what do you understand as the primary responsibilities of the Sports director, and do you think you have what it takes to fulfil them without defaulting?

Mr. Adebayo: According to the Constitution of NAPS, primarily states that the Sports Director is responsible for and oversees all sporting activities in the department.

And yes, I think I do have what it takes.

PSYCHLENS PRESS: Do you have any previous experience as an office holder in a students' association or any hall of residence?

Mr. Adebayo: No, if elected, this would be my first experience in a student-related association.

PSYCHLENS PRESS: Why do you think the students of NAPS, UI should entrust the administration of their sporting activities to you, considering your lack of official experience in student leadership?

Mr Adebayo: Because while I might not have been an official office holder in a student association. I have served with numerous office holders and held offices that have exposed me to students and allowed me to build my leadership skills.

PSYCHLENS PRESS: Can you share your long-term vision for the student association and how you plan to work towards achieving it during your tenure as the Sports director if elected?

Mr. Adebayo: Introduce and establish a process that allows NAPSites to showcase their sporting skills and abilities at the department, Faculty, and university at large.

I plan to work with NAPSites, identify our sporting strengths, and work on our weaknesses ( if any). Then through training, build further, solidify our strengths, and improve on our weaknesses. Then compete with the best until we become the best.

PSYCHLENS PRESS: What are the anticipated challenges attached to the office you are vying for, and how do you intend to overcome them?

Mr. Adebayo: One would be getting NAPSites to participate in sporting events in large numbers. A plan to overcome this is to work with each level's major stakeholders and implement a system where NAPSites get to know of coming sporting events early and ensure constant reminders

Another might be the challenge of getting enough funds to help make Sporting events a success. Hopefully, this won't be much of an issue as I hope budgets for sporting events will be approved by the house.
