Interview with vice president aspirant, Miss Idowu Temilade

Psychlens: Hello, My name is Oluwadarasimi, a pressman from Psychlens, and I'll be interviewing you today. Could you please introduce yourself?

Miss Temilade: My name is Idowu Temilade. I'm a bonafide psychology department student, 200 level, Faculty of the social sciences. I am currently serving as the 200-level assistant class rep of the streets department.

Psychlens: Okay, thank you very much. We have a few questions for you. What motivated you to run for the position of vice president of NAPS?

Miss Temilade: It is my interest, flair, and passion for service. I have served in many positions and assisted many others, which makes me believe service is an avenue to learn more. Though tiring, serving remains my motivation and an opportunity to build myself.

Psychlens: Have you played any leadership role? If you have, can you provide examples of your leadership experience and how it will contribute to your role as the vice president of NAPS?

Miss Temilade: Yes, I have. I was the personal assistant to the former vice president, Miss Feyikemi, the Chief Whip for the legislative house of NAPS before I resigned, an academic coordinator of my Fellowship, and so on. I believe my experiences have allowed me to tolerate people and show compassion. It taught me that it is important to listen to those you lead and be sensitive to the people and their needs. It also helped me to build the capacity to be selfless, and this will make my role as vice president successful because the experiences I have garnered are essential leadership skills.

Psychlens: If you become the vice president of NAPS, how would you ensure that the concerns and interests of all students in the department are represented and addressed?

Miss Temilade: I plan to Leverage the ideas of the ex-vice presidents of having representatives from each level who give accounts of things happening in their constituencies. I feel this will work well, as the students might not be close with the executives and others in the house, but when there are representatives from each of these levels, it will make it easier to know their concerns and address them.

Psychlens: What measures do you plan on implementing to improve the accessibility and availability of psychological resources and support services for students?

Miss Temilade: I plan to continue the ideas we have been using over the years, that is, a library for past questions and notes on each course. I haven't thought about other options, as I want to continue using the E-library while updating it occasionally and ensuring that the tutorials are observed.

Psychlens: How will you engage psychology students in the decision-making processes and policies of the department?

Miss Temilade: There is provision for that already from the past administration. An example is the upcoming cultural day. Apart from the class reps, several Napsites are also involved in the decision-making, showing that everybody, one way or the other, is being represented. I would also propose using a Google form where Napsites can speak on what they feel about the department and the areas the administration can improve on. But I am not usually the one that handles this. I should believe it is that of the president or the general secretary.

Psychlens: If elected vice president, how would you ensure a smooth transition and continuity for future vice presidents in our department?

Miss Temilade: I believe a smooth transition and continuity are based on the relationship the candidates have with the person on the seat. To be a good successor, one should have a good relationship with their predecessor. It is indeed far,  but I would ensure I give whoever enough advice and rundowns of how my experience as a vice president had been. This should ensure a smooth transition as they would have a clearer idea of what they are going for.
