IS VAPING SAFER THAN SMOKING?

Features: By Vivian Nnagboro

Smoking has been known to be dangerous to the human body, and it is popularly known that smokers are liable to die young. Smoking can be defined as inhaling tobacco in the form of smoke and exhaling it through the mouth or nose. The nicotine in tobacco causes an increase in heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration. Diseases such as cancer, diseases of the lung, diabetes, heart disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease have all been linked to the smoking of cigarettes. There are a lot of disadvantages associated with smoking, leading people to want an alternative that gives them the same rush but with fewer consequences.

For years, people believed that vaping was a suitable replacement for smoking and that it had fewer consequences; research has proved that though it is less harmful than smoking, it is still dangerous to people. Vaping simulates smoking and still contains nicotine, flavoring, and chemicals. A tobacco cigarette can contain up to 7000 toxic chemicals, while a vape pen or e-cigarette can contain up to 30 chemicals. Regardless of the difference in content, their effects still have similar body damage patterns.

Recently they have been more and more cases of people who are frequent vapers sustaining lung injuries and dying. In most cases, the people had modified their vape pens and used substances not intended by the manufacturer. Vaping has been proven to increase your chances of having a heart attack and leave you prone to heart and lung failure, which are also adverse effects of smoking. They have also been proven to be just as addictive as regular cigarettes.

In summary, though vaping might seem a safer alternative to smoking, it is not. Both smoking and vaping will cause just as much damage to your body. Either smoking or vaping will leave you vulnerable to lung and heart diseases. Also, being around smokers and inhaling the smoke can leave you vulnerable to these diseases. It is advisable to avoid both smoking and vaping to maintain good health.
