LACK OF FEMALES PARTICIPATION IN NAPS SPORTS ACTIVITIES.

By Onyinye Blessing

Sports activities are meant to encourage unity, fitness, and healthy competition among students. However, observation shows that very few females in the department are interested in participating in these activities.

The number of females involved in sports is significantly low, which limits us to inter-faculty games and inter-departmental games.

Currently, we are losing out on opportunities to participate in bigger competitions, such as the SEAL CUP and other major tournaments.

Concern was raised and females were asked questions. Several female students cited fitness as a barrier with responses like “I cannot do it”, “Do I look like someone that will survive 5mins on the field to you” “I'm just a girl” Beyond fitness, some dismiss sport activities as a joke.

The effects of this low participation are high.

It not only reduces the department activities but also deprives female students of the physical, social, and emotional benefits that come with sports.

Furthermore, the absence of female-focused teams or programs further deepens the gap, making participation seem inaccessible. But when there is a strong female sport team, it encourages more participation and willingness of others to join the team.

In conclusion, the lack of female participation in departmental sports is an issue that deserves attention.
