MERGE OR NOT: THE NPHR DELIBERATES ON CRUCIAL MATTERS FOR THE GOOD OF THE NAPSITES

After the AOB (Any Other Business) was addressed, Hon. Oyinkansola moved a motion to move to the next agenda which was seconded by Hon. Eunice. Mr President in the person of Nwadozie Ebuka was called upon to state what he had to tender to the house, he started with a proposal of  NAPS week being held in the 7th week. He listed several things that were the reason for this suggestion by the executives

●      The 8th week being Christmas

●      The 9th week, many students will not be available

●      The 10th week, many other departments plan their week to be that time.

As well expected, Honourables had different perspectives about this, while some supported, some countered. With reasons such that, it clashes with the FATSSSA week, that as a FATSSSAITE, there might be conflict interest about which one to attend. Mr President cleared the tension by informing the house that the executives are working hand-in-hand with FATSSSA not for merging but to avoid any issue like this.

Mr President put forth another proposal of NAPS merging with FATSSSA for the dinner. He stated the reason being the economic situation of the country in the light of paying two separate ticket fees for the two dinners that not everyone is so financially buoyant to fund the two separately.

The House deliberated on this, the clerk suggested that the Honourable members go back to their constituency and deliberate with their members, a pressman supported this and further stated that a decision on distribution of bottles as souvenir last session didn’t sit well with some students, more reason to ask for their opinion. Hon. Laju responded that same set of people make use of the bottle and further stated that she believes that the merging will sit well with her constituency members. Mr President also stated that it will cause delay in decision making and time is not on the side of the planners. The Honourable members decided for their constituency and from economical perspective, they supported the merging of dinner night with FATSSSA, only the 300 level constituency were indecisive and the house went on with the highest vote to allow NAPS merge with FATSSSA for the dinner.

Afterwards, the meeting was adjourned. With the absence of the Chief wip, Hon. Oyinkansola acted in her place to dismiss the sitting.
