NAIOP Concludes 2026 Scientific Conference with Research Presentations, Awards & Workshop

The 2026 National Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Association of Industrial and Organisational Psychologists (NAIOP) concluded successfully at the University of Ibadan after three days of scholarly engagement, professional networking, research presentations, and discussions on the future of work in an increasingly technology-driven world.

The conference commenced with the arrival and registration of participants, setting the stage for a gathering that brought together academics, practitioners, industry leaders, policymakers, and students from across the country.

Activities peaked on the second day with the formal opening ceremony held at the Dame Edith Okowa Auditorium, Alumni Guest House, University of Ibadan. The event featured the recognition of distinguished guests, opening remarks, welcome addresses, keynote presentations, and discussions centred on workforce development, organisational effectiveness, and the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence in contemporary society.

The day also showcased cultural performances that celebrated Nigeria's rich heritage and provided moments of relaxation and entertainment for participants. Representatives of United Capital engaged attendees on financial planning and investment opportunities, while notable personalities were honoured for their contributions to the advancement of Industrial and Organisational Psychology and the growth of NAIOP.

Among those recognised were Major General Peter Dauda, who received an Honorary Fellow Award for his longstanding support of the association, and Professor Olusola Akinbobola and Dr. Anover Ucho, who were conferred with Academic Fellow Awards in recognition of their outstanding contributions to scholarship, leadership, and professional practice.

The third day of the conference shifted to the Faculty of the Social Sciences, where participants engaged in parallel technical sessions and professional workshops. Despite an initial venue adjustment that briefly caused some confusion among students, activities quickly settled into full swing across multiple venues within the faculty.

Research presentations explored diverse aspects of Artificial Intelligence and workplace effectiveness, with scholars examining topics such as human-AI collaboration, psychological factors influencing employee engagement, and the integration of AI into psychological practice. Interactive discussions that followed the presentations provided participants with opportunities to critically engage emerging issues surrounding technology adoption, workplace transformation, and professional practice.

A major highlight of the day was the professional workshop, which brought together experienced practitioners who shared practical insights from their careers in Industrial and Organisational Psychology. Speakers reflected on the realities of professional practice, the importance of adaptability, critical thinking, effective communication, and the need for young professionals to continuously develop skills relevant to a rapidly evolving workplace.

The workshop also provided a platform for meaningful interaction between presenters and the audience through an engaging question-and-answer session, during which participants sought guidance on career development, workplace realities, and professional growth.

Beyond the presentations and formal sessions, the conference served as a valuable platform for networking, knowledge exchange, mentorship, and the strengthening of professional relationships.
