NAPS PICNIC: A TRIP TO NOSTALGIA

“Kudos to her for a job well done. I would rate the picnic an  8.5/10” according to Mr Fiyinfoluwa, one of the attendees of the Picnic that was held on Sunday, October 29.

Picnics have always been part of the events organized in various departments and the Department of Psychology is not left out on this trend. It serves as a mode of relaxation, a moment where students are relieved of stress. 

This was confirmed by Miss Ifeoluwa from 200l, who stated that “Sunday was a break day from the stress bottled up from school work. From the amazing old songs to the snacks( although the snacks were not the same, I guess that is because of the country's state but it was enough to bring back those good old memories) and the drinks”.

The Picnic for the session was held on 29th October 2023 at the Social Sciences Car park. Every picnic always has its unique theme, likewise, this also came in its unique theme. According to the Social Director, the original theme for the picnic was “Y2K” but because of the collaboration with the Department of Political Science whose theme was “Jean”, they came up with the theme ‘Jeany Y2K'. Though we are in the year 2023, the organizers designed the atmosphere to bring back the feel of the  2000’s. They did this by bringing back old pictures that were displayed on stage. Students were asked to come dressed in the Spirit of Y2K, a year different from now. 

“...especially the gift pack brought back memories - In it was the banana bubble gum. I've been looking for it for years now and boom I saw it in the pack” said Miss Jane, a 300l student.

The collaboration also proved to be a successful one, as we can attribute the large number of people present for the Picnic as a result of the collaboration. 

“…Well, to me, I feel it was a great idea. And I said this because if it was only Psychology, I honestly won’t lie to you, the turnout wouldn’t be much because In that department (Psychology) everything is just pure academics. We love book”

 “It was a great idea. Personally, I could literally count how many of my coursemates attended. So the merge gave a reasonable number of people that attended. Because what is an event without the people?”. 

Some students also applauded the collaboration because it paved the way for networking among students 

“…The merger for me was a brilliant idea. The idea of seeing new faces different from the ones you are used to...An avenue to network” 

“…Personally, the collaboration wasn't a bad thing. I interacted with some students I wouldn't ordinarily talk to. You know, the party mood and everything made us talk, gist and even dance.”

The Social Director was praised for her effort and the idea behind the picnic.

 “I really appreciate her for taking us back to memory lane and I am looking forward to more events from her”.

“I'll say the social director did well to put these ideas together…Shout-out to the Social Director and her committee members, that was great”. 

These are the various comments of students who attended the events.

According to the budget presented by the social Director, she was expecting 150 people but 100 people paid for the ticket. The Social Director said the target would have been met if the deadline was extended because some students showed interest even during the event.

The Social Director stated “The picnic was awesome, people that came can testify to that. I'm grateful for the people who trusted us enough to buy tickets and also show up. People who were not able to come on that day after payment got their packages between Monday and Wednesday. People enjoyed themselves and that's what was most important”.

Though the Picnic had to be wrapped up early due to time restrictions, the purpose of the event which was to take the students on a trip to the 2000's in Jeans was achieved as students attested to it that their expectations were met.
