NPHR SITTING: NAPS WEEK ON THE HORIZON

On the 26th of September 2025, the legislative arm of NAPS held its 4th sitting and the first for the semester.  Although scheduled for 12:00 pm, proceedings commenced at 12:18 pm due to members’ late arrival. The sitting began with an opening prayer after which the minutes was read. 

The association’s renewal budget was subsequently approved following a motion moved by Hon. Sandra.

The NAPS week was one of the major discourses in the sitting. The social director, Miss Oyindamola, explained that the budget is not yet available, but the event schedule was presented before the house for delegation. NAPS week event was scheduled to begin on the 27th of October and continue to the first of November with a series of activities from the psyche quiz, to the mental health program, cultural day, sport day, school outreach, etc.

The speaker of the house, Hon Mitchelle, sought clarification from the social director on whether we would be having a cultural day or a cultural night, and the social director explained that it would be a cultural night. She further explained the plan to involve the Psychology department of other schools rather than involving other departments in the faculty, “since it's a psychology thing,” she stated. However, this plan generated a lot of questions, especially on the budget, because other events and activities would be catered for from the department’s purse. After the controversy, the social director pointed out that the full plan has not been made and that currently, it is a “might thing” in her exact words.

Also, concerning the psyche quiz, Hon. Israel questioned the criteria for the selection of participants. He suggested that the constituency should determine the participants, but the General Secretary, Mr Awoyemi Fiyinfoluwa, explained that the selection is primarily on the table of the class representatives. He further explained that 4 participants shall be selected from each class which makes 16 participants in total.

Pertaining to the school outreach, the president of the association, Mr. Samuel Akinwande explained that it is meant to create a form of awareness for secondary school students to enlighten them on what psychology is and what psychology is not, the employment opportunities and other important information and when questioned on the criteria for selection, the president made it known that the committee in charge of it will determine that.

The sports director also gave an overview of what the sports day will look like, with a series of indoor and outdoor games, and the final of the HOD's Cup will be on that same day. And on this note, Hon. Israel moved the motion to approve the NAPS week schedule which was seconded by Hon. Sandra
