OJUDE NAPS: A CULTURE OF EXPERIENCES

Cultural Night is a tradition for the association; every administration incorporates Cultural Night into their activities for the week, which occurs every second semester. This administration didn't fail in carrying on this tradition of cultural night. This session's cultural night is indeed a story to be told. The department started its week on the 10th of November with several activities, and ended it on the 15th with a cultural night, which was the grand finale of the NAPS week.

It's actually reported that there has been a low turnout of Napsites for some of these events, which is not quite encouraging. On the 15th of November, the department held its cultural day tagged OJUDE NAPS. This event was to bring all Napsites, including the DLC students, together and have a cultural vibe. The event, which was supposed to start by 1 p.m., eventually started gradually around 4:30 p.m., according to the report given, this was due to technical issues from the DJ side, which needed time to be sorted.

This delay led to some students leaving even before the event started fully. Though the event started at 4:30 p.m., students started getting engaged around 5:00 p.m. While waiting for the event to fully start, palm wine, zobo, and ponmo were served to the students. Along the line, peppered beef was served as well. In short, we can say students enjoy themselves with the light refreshments. The MC tried to engage students and a variety of games were played, starting from picking the cups to the interpretation of talking drums. Some students actually commented on the MC not being professional enough during the course of the events.

Later on, Miss Mary from the 400-level constituency joined the MC on stage to make the event more lively. The students were grouped into four groups where each group had to answer questions relating to Nigeria. The tied group were asked to sing with the alphabet. Afterwards, we had students dance and dance as the event continued

During all these, some students have gotten food while some haven't. With the hope of getting food, students held on as information was passed across about the food being on fire. Some left because they couldn't wait, but those who waited ended up with no food, and those who ended up with food had their food without meat.

According to the social director, this occurrence was a result of low funds for the events, and the food she could cater was what the money could handle. This response left some students with the opinion of not taking responsibility for her actions, and some students mentioned that they didn't like the responses they got when they went there. This doesn't leave out the drama of the DJ who literally had arguments with three different people at the occasion. One of the complaints from students was that some of the songs played by the DJ didn't align with the vibes, and the songs were old.

It's worth noting that the 400-level constituency tagged Phoenix, stormed the event in large numbers. The cultural day is day 2 of their ongoing FYB week, and they indeed showed up in different attire and vibes. When each constituency was called out for dance, only the Phoenix showed up and they all danced, rejoicing for their final lap.

The program eventually ended past 7 p.m., while some Napsites left without eating, others had food before leaving. Some students also dispersed to the NAPSS cultural night because both departments had their cultural night same day.
