Psychlens Press Editorial Board Pays Courtesy Visit to HOD; Highlights Conference and 50th Anniversary Plans

In a move to strengthen communication and institutional engagement, the Psychlens Press Editorial Board paid a courtesy visit to the Head of the Department of Psychology, Professor Alarape, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

The visit provided an opportunity for the Editorial Board to formally introduce itself while reaffirming the role of the Press in documenting, interpreting, and amplifying departmental activities. Following introductions, Professor A.I. Alarape engaged members in an interactive session, offering insights into the department’s current priorities and future outlook.

A key highlight of the meeting was the announcement of an upcoming departmental conference scheduled for 26th to 29th May 2026.

The conference, organized by the National Association of Industrial and Organizational Psychology (NAIOP), will be hosted by the department at the faculty.

The HOD also brought to notice that the Department of Psychology is commemorating its 50th anniversary this year. Established in 1976, the department’s golden jubilee will be marked by a series of activities, with the forthcoming conference forming a central part of the celebration. Additional commemorative events are expected to be announced in due course.

Reinforcing the importance of institutional visibility, Professor Alarape encouraged Psychlens Press to deepen its coverage of departmental affairs and enhance students’ understanding of available structures and opportunities. He drew attention to the departmental clinic, a support system designed to provide guidance, counseling, and a safe space for students in need. He clarified that the clinic operates independently of the Student Help Center (SHC), which serves the broader faculty.

The Press was further tasked with addressing common misconceptions surrounding the department, courses, its lecturers, and its internal structures, with the aim of promoting informed engagement within the student body.

On the matter of internships, Professor Alarape noted that discussions are ongoing, with plans for further consultations to explore feasible pathways. While acknowledging students’ growing interest in gaining practical experience alongside academic study, he explained that the recently adopted CMASS system has introduced tighter curricular constraints, limiting immediate adjustments. Nonetheless, the integration of internship opportunities remains under active consideration.

The meeting concluded with an assurance of continued support from the HOD, who encouraged members of the Press to maintain open lines of communication. He reiterated his willingness, alongside that of other departmental lecturers, to support the organization in advancing its objectives.
