Psychology Bags All of a Possible 9 Points in the SEALS Cup Group Stage Campaign

Exactly five days after an exhilarating 4-0 win against our brothers from Sociology, Psychology's men in blue strike again. Despite qualifying for the next round after a 3-1 win against Arabic and Islamic studies and a 4-0 win against Sociology, the talented footballers did not hold back against the players from the wood products engineering (WPE) department.

The third group stage match was slated for noon; however, the football match started several minutes later. This match was a deciding match for the boys from WPE, who managed to bag three points out of a possible six. After the pre-game formalities, the game kicked off. The boys from both sides played beautifully for 30 minutes. The first half witnessed a lot of attacks and counterattacks from both sides of the pitch. Psychology got a big chance from a pass, however, it was sent wide by the striker. WPE also took a nearly perfect freekick which was saved by Psychology’s goalkeeper. Despite the effort from both sides, the first half ended in a goalless draw.

The second half was looking as uneventful as the first half. However, things changed when Psychology got a free kick a few yards to the WPE’s goalpost. Unlike the other freekicks taken, this one was given to Emeka, known for his prowess in converting free kicks. After the referee’s whistle, the right-back takes the free kick, chipping it down the middle of the goalpost. To the dismay of many, the ball hits the bar and ricochets. Fortunately, Psychology’s striker, popularly known as Halaand (after the Manchester City Striker) was in the right position to head the ball into the goalpost.

Psychology’s goal seemed to snap WPE boys back into reality, as they realized they had to win the match to qualify for the next round. A few minutes later, WPE’s striker is at Psychology’s goalpost. However, the ball is saved by the keeper. Once again, a WPE winger suddenly sprints and shoots into the far right corner of the goalpost. To the surprise of all, the keeper runs and dives, arguably making one of the best saves of the tournament so far. This goal attempt goes on for a few more minutes as WPE either plays the ball wide or it gets saved by the keeper. After a few minutes, the referee blows the final whistle, ending the match in a 1-0 win in Psychology’s favour.
