Reactions as WizKid says Rap Genre is Dead...Boring

In an interview with 10, an Australian magazine, WizKid, a Nigerian singer and songwriter, stated that he only listens to Afrobeats. As far as he was concerned, the rap genre was dead and boring.

He further explained that most artists in this genre often use the same beats and the same flows, which has become tedious for him, while stating that he meant no disrespect to everyone, but there was no development in the genre. However, there were a lot of reactions from Nigerian rap artists and fans. Some agreed with the superstar, and some were unhappy with him.

M.I., a pioneer in Nigerian rap music, took to his Twitter to express his displeasure with the Afrobeats artiste. In his words, he listed other Nigerian artists who were 'winning,' including Falz, BlaqBonez, Ladipoe, and so on. However, others, like comedian turned-musician Carter Efe, agreed with wizkid. Efe took to his Twitter handle, stating that Rap was dead, while others criticized him.

Oladips, a Nigerian rapper, expressed his displeasure with a diss track, stating the superstar had done nothing to develop or improve the musical genre. Others have come to Wiz's defense, stating that he was probably misunderstood and he was probably referring to the music genre as a whole and not Nigerian rap music specifically.
