Super Eagles No Longer Super

The Super Eagles were not so “Super” on Thursday the 17th of November when they played against World Cup-bound Portuguese National Football Team in an international friendly in Lisbon.

Portugal took the lead through Manchester United midfield maestro Bruno Fernandes in the 9th minute. Bruno would later convert from the penalty spot in the 35th minute to cap off a domineering first half from the Seleção in Lisbon.

Two quick-fire goals from Gonçalo Ramos and João Mário in the 82nd and 84th minute completed the rout for Portugal over the former African champions who won’t be at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking after the game, Fernandes told Sport TV: “The perfection did not exist, or at least it is very hard to accomplish, but we made a great game, dominating every level. It was a win that gives us great confidence ahead of our debut against Ghana. We are a team, it isn’t about individuals and we have a great group, young players that are up-and-coming and hungry. We are ready for the World Cup.”
