THE 1st NPHR LEGISLATIVE SITTING: THE BYE ELECTION

The first official legislative sitting of the NPHR commenced at 11:58 am on the 15th of September 2023, ushering in an important moment for the association's governance.

In attendance were distinguished members of the Faculty, including the President, Vice President, and the executive members of the department. This executive team comprised the President, Vice-President, AGS (Assistant General Secretary), and P.R.O (Public Relations Officer).

The sitting began with the swearing-in ceremony of honourables chosen as representatives from across the constituencies. The assembly welcomed 4 representatives from the 100 level constituency, 1 representative from the 200 level, and another from the 300 level. These oath-taking individuals ensured the gathering reached a quorum, aligning with the constitutional requirements.

The Chairman of INEC, Grace Adepoju, stepped forward to introduce the candidates for the bye-election. Among the contenders were Mr. AyobamiBakare for the Sports Secretary position, Miss Omolola Okusaga and Miss Mercy Oyinloye vying for the office of Financial Secretary, Miss OlusayoKuti and Mr. Akinade Kehinde competing for the General Secretary position, and Miss Mary Obadanfor the position of Social Director.

The bye-election proceedings were outlined by the Speaker, clearly defining who had voting privileges and the procedures involved. Those eligible to cast their votes included the executive members, and the legislative house members.

Following the candidates' presentation of their manifestos, they faced the questions from those present at the sitting. These included congressmen, members of the press, executive members, and the legislative house members.

Subsequently, those with voting rights were invited to express their choice by stating either "yes" or "no" for each candidate running for positions.

Miss Olusayo secured victory as General Secretary with 8 votes, Miss Mercy emerged as the Financial Secretary with 12 votes, Mr. Ayobami as the SportsSecretary with 14 votes, and Miss Mary was elected as the Social Director with 7 votes. The newly elected candidates were duly sworn in by the Association's President, marking the immediate start of their responsibilities.

Additionally, the sitting addressed other vital items on the agenda, including the budget presentations by the executive members and the house's budget, underscoring the association's financial priorities.

The legislative sitting was adjourned at exactly 4:09 p.m.
