THE DELAY IN THE ASSOCIATION OFFICIAL ACCOUNT

VICTORIA ADEUSI

During the press and manifesto night, miss Akintomiwa, the association's current treasurer, made known to the students her plan and intention of making means of online payment available to students, although she was informed during the press night that the preceding executives did make online payment available during their tenure.

Four weeks have gone by in the semester, the collection of basic dues has begun, and online payment is being made available but it is not as expected.

The Vanguard made a special release 003 of payment of basic dues on 7th September but the account provided was a personal account, not an official one neither the one Miss Akintomiwa stated in her manifesto. When this was released, one of the students questioned the use of a personal account but some of the executive members explained to the student that they are working on the association account, so they have to use a personal account for now.

In the last sitting held on the 15th of September, the president assured the house based on the response from the bank that the association account would be available the following week after the sitting but we are in the second week after the sitting, and the official account is yet to be released for the collection of basic dues.

This issue led to the interview with the Treasurer, miss Tomiwa on the 26th of September.

Pressman: Good evening ma’am, I am Victoria, a member of PSYCHLENS, can you introduce yourself

Miss Akintomiwa: Good evening Miss Victoria. I’m Akinola Racheal Akintomiwa, a 400 level student of the Department of Psychology, I’m also the treasurer of NAPS UI

Pressman: How has the responsibility been so far?

Miss Akintomiwa: It’s been fine ma. A little bit stressing but we thank God.

Pressman: During your manifesto, you informed the students about your plan for online payment. I want to ask if that has been made available.

Miss Akintomiwa: Yes I did

However, after being elected into office, it was decided that we open a bank account instead of using Paystack because of the percentage that would be deducted as commission upon every payment into the account.

We’re still working on opening a bank account at the moment

We’re just using my bank account until the association’s bank account is functional.

Pressman: How have you been able to segregate your money from the association’s money?

Miss Akintomiwa: Oh

The bank account that basic dues are being paid into has been dormant for a while. I don’t use it anymore, the only money entering the account is basic dues

I have other accounts I use personally.

Pressman: In the last meeting held on the 15th of September, the president said the bank assured her that the account would be active the following week.

Miss Akintomiwa: Yes, that’s what we were told by the bank official who wants to open the account.

Pressman: And has it been activated?

Miss Akintomiwa: Not yet

We’re just hearing that “what they use to open account has been down lately” I’m not sure what that means but the official said it’s a general issue in their bank, and we hope it will be resolved soon

Pressman: Does that mean the only alternative available now is to make use of your account?

Miss Akintomiwa: For now, yes.

Pressman: OK ma

Thanks so much for your time.

This is done to let the students be aware of the issue of the association account.

Miss Akintomiwa: No problem ma.
