by Onyinye Blessing

The quiz started at 11:00 am, with the opening prayer taken by Miss Michelle, a 300-level student. Following that, the four teams for the competition were introduced. Each team had four participants from different levels. We had team NEURON NINJAS represented by: Efe Benedicta, Atobatale Adeife, Eze Gordon, and Alice Ogar; Team COGNITIVE CREW represented by: Paul Onyekachi, Folawemimo Rafiu, Osagie Omosio and Adedoja Aishat; Team ELITE INTELLECTS represented by: Olatunji Catherine, Odetola Jumoke, Fulfilment, and Farinloye Motunrayo; Team THE ALPHA MIND represented by: Christopher Sandra, Aladedunye Emmanuel, Folarin Olawale, and Oyinkansola Ilori

We had three judges: The Dean of the faculty, the person of Prof. B.O. Ehige, Mrs Lydia Adelana, and Dr Fashanu, the undergraduate coordinator.

The quiz was held in 3 rounds: The 1st round was a multiple-choice question and held in five rounds.

The 2nd round was a true or false question, and it was held in 2 rounds. The 3rd was a German question and was also held in 5 rounds.

In the first two rounds of the 1st phase of the quiz, each team had two points except Team Alpha Mind, which had one point. After that, the Dean's speech came in and he gave some key words that should be held onto as students:

“The week is a very busy week because it is a convocation week”. He also made a correction on how to pronounce the word “Piaget” because the host mispronounced it earlier. He also said, “Students are the letters to the world to show the effort of the lecturers and professors."

The Dean advised the students of psychology to visit secondary schools and spread the knowledge about psychology, he said, “market your discipline”.

He addresses the dressing style of The Social Science in general, especially the indecent dressing common among females, he added “ make yourself decent and showcase good dressing”. He made use of the MC as an example of indecent dressing. He was in slippers, shorts and an armless, which was not proper for an event like that.

He encouraged psychology students to take the lead in the faculty by dressing decently to make a change. Furthermore, he said psychology has the highest number of first-class students, which he is proud of, and encouraged others to follow the lead.

He said, “Make the faculty proud. Make the department proud”.

He also encouraged students to do away with substance and cites some examples. He ended the speech with a prayer.

The quiz continued after the dean's speech, still on the 1st round. After the next three rounds, the 1st round ended with each team having 5 points, except Alpha Mind, with 3 points.

The 2nd round commenced immediately, it was a true or false question with only two takes and it ended with all teams having two points except neuron ninjas with one point.

The 3rd round started afterwards, it was a German question and the participants were given two chances to pick an answer, just in case they missed their first answer. The round was taken five times, and the Neuron ninja had 2 points at the end, the Cognitive Crew with 4 points, the Elite intellects with 5 points and the Alpha mind with 4 points.

The quiz ended with;

Neuron ninjas have 9 points in total, Cognitive crew having 11 points, Elite intellects having 12 points, and Alpha mind having 10 points

Their positions were announced by Mrs Lydia Adelana, and she presented them with their certificates. The Neuron Ninjas were in the fourth position, Alpha Mind in the 3rd position and the cognitive crew in the second position.

Mr Fashanu honoured the 1st position, the Elite Intellectuals with their awards. This ends phase 1 of the Psychequiz.

Moving on to phase 2 of the Psychequiz, which was the L&D speech. It started with the introduction of the L&D Rockies. The topic for the L&D speech was “Understanding Learned Helplessness”

And the speakers were, Adeife, Ikechineye Cecilia, Abiona Temitayo and Olafadeun Faith, all from 100lv. And they were given 3 minutes each to complete their speech. After their speeches, Miss Benedicta, a 300lv student, was invited for her spoken words.
