The University of Ibadan, Main Campus Elects Their Student Union Leaders

On Saturday the 9th of October, the student population of the premier university, the University of Ibadan got the chance to decide who would lead and represent them at the Student Union level in the next academic session.

For most of the day, the voting platform was inaccessible to a majority of the population causing the Electoral Commission to extend the closing time for voting two different times. This inaccessibility of the voting platform had students speculating on if it was a way that had been devised to allow for nefarious activity on the platform, while other students felt that such was inevitable considering the traffic the platform would have to deal with.

It was in this period that a lot of allegations of illegal polling units in some halls of residences were flying around, coupled with some students saying their voting had been done on their behalf without their consent. At the end of the day, the voting was done and winners were announced.

With a total vote of 2128, Adewole Yinka MASCOT was announced the winner of the presidential election. This victory was against his opponent Olajide Richard who obtained 1255 votes. The SUEPC went ahead to announce 148 undecided votes for the presidential election.

Without the presence of an opponent individual for the post of the Vice President of SU, Oluotanmi Zainab was announced the winner with a total vote of 3330 and a 202 undecided vote.

UI has decided and there has been peace, both the winning and losing parties seem to have accepted the verdict of the Electoral Commission and the student body is waiting to see what unfolds in the coming academic year.
