TOP FIVE VICE-PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES IN THE 2023 GENERAL ELECTION

A leader without a dependable second in command might find it difficult to function properly. As much as it is important to vote for a competent leader, we should also take into consideration who their second in command is. Here is a list of the Vice-Presidential aspirants of top candidates for the 2023 general election.


BABA-AHMED YUSUF DATTI





He is the vice-presidential candidate for Labour Party and running mate to Peter Gregory Obi. He has a BSc and MSc in Economics from the University of Maiduguri and a Ph.D. from the University of Westminster. He was active in the business and banking world before venturing into politics, he is also the founder of Baze University in Abuja. He served as a senator for Kaduna North from 2011 to 2012 and a member of the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007. He has been known to publicly speak against corruption and for advocating for good governance.


OKOWA ARTHUR IFEANYI




He is the vice-presidential candidate for the People’s Democratic Party and running mate to Atiku Abubakar. He has a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Ibadan. He gathered experience working in the medical field before venturing into politics. He began his political career in 1991 and since has held various positions; secretary to the Ika Local Government from 1991-1993, commissioner in Delta State government for Agriculture and Natural Resources (1999- 2001), Governor of Delta State 2015- date, and many other posts. In 2020 as a sitting governor of Delta State he established the University of Delta.


SHETTIMA KASHIM




He is the vice-presidential candidate for the All Progressive Congress and running mate to Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He has a BSc in Agricultural Economics from the University of Maiduguri and an MSc from the University of Ibadan. He served as a lecturer at the University of Maiduguri, Head of Accounts at the now-defunct Commercial Bank of Africa, and Deputy General Manager at Zenith Bank before stepping down to move on to politics. From 2007-2011 he served as a commissioner in 5 ministries and he was the governor of Borno State from 2011-2019. During his tenure as governor, there was a seemly high rate of Boko Haram insurgency in the state.


MAGASHI HARUNA GARBA




He is the vice-presidential candidate for African Action Congress and running mate to Omoyele Sowore. He studied Law at the University of Maiduguri, then furthered his studies at the Nigerian Law School Lagos. He also has an MSc in Business and Commercial Law from Bayero University Kano, he currently operates a Law Firm named Hujjah Chambers as one of the principal Partners. He ventured into politics in 2003


ODIRI IDAHOGA ISAAC




He is the vice-presidential candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party and running mate to Mohamed Rabu Kwankwaso. He is a cleric and presiding Bishop of God First Ministry AKA Illumination Assembly. He was a trained Mechanical Engineer before starting his ministry. He has received a United Nations Peace Ambassadorial award.
