UI Cancels February 17 Hall Application, Reopens Portal for Undergraduates

By Queen Adekunle

The Dean of Students at the University of Ibadan has released a memo announcing the cancellation of the undergraduate hall accommodation application previously opened on February 17, 2026.

In the memo, the Dean expressed regret over the development, stating,“We regret all inconveniences caused by this decision.”Students who had earlier applied are now required to submit fresh applications, as the previous submissions have been cleared from the system.

The new application portal reopened on February 26 and is currently available only to undergraduate students seeking accommodation in their respective halls of residence. Postgraduate students will be allowed to apply at a later date, yet to be announced.

According to the updated accommodation schedule, fresh students will not be permitted to move into the halls before March 2, while returning students will only be allowed entry from March 5, which aligns with the official resumption date in the revised academic calendar.

The memo also outlines the steps required for a successful application. Although the process remains similar to the earlier guidelines, it now includes three sections. Section C specifies the type and quality of passport photograph required. Applicants must upload a passport photograph that is not more than six months old.

The university emphasized that application through the official portal remains the only approved method for securing a space in any hall of residence. Students who fail to follow the prescribed procedures will not be considered eligible for accommodation.
