UI PROFESSOR, EMMANUEL REMI AIYEDE APPOINTED CHAIR OF NIGERIAN TRIBUNE EDITORIAL BOARD

Professor Emmanuel Remi Aiyede of the Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan, has been appointed as the Chair of the Editorial Board of the Nigerian Tribune Newspaper, Nigeria’s longest-running privately owned newspaper.

The development was made public by the professor in a LinkedIn post on Thursday, February 5, 2026, where he expressed his excitement over assuming the new leadership role at the renowned media organisation.

Professor Aiyede, who specialises in Political Institutions, Governance and Public Policy, has maintained a longstanding relationship with the Nigerian Tribune, having served as a member of its Editorial Board since 2008. Over the years, he has also been a consistent voice in national conversations through his contributions to the media.

Before joining the University of Ibadan in 2005, Professor Aiyede was a lecturer at the University of Lagos. At UI, he has held several academic and administrative positions, including Head of the Department of Political Science between 2020 and 2022, Sub-Dean of the Faculty of the Social Sciences from 2012 to 2014, and Coordinator of the Leadership and Governance Programme at the Centre for Sustainable Development from 2010 to 2014.

Beyond Nigeria, Professor Aiyede currently serves as an Extraordinary Professor at the School of Public Management and Administration, Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, University of Pretoria, South Africa.

A Fellow of the Pan-African Scientific Research Council (PASRC), he has also contributed to governance research across Africa, notably as the Research and Policy Uptake Lead at the Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR) in Nairobi between July and December 2023.

His appointment as Editorial Board Chair is widely seen as a significant boost to the Nigerian Tribune, reflecting his vast experience in academia, governance research, and public engagement.
