University of Ibadan Students’ Union Held Candlelight Procession in Honour of Kunle Adepeju.

The University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UI’SU) held a candlelight procession to commemorate the life and legacy of Kunle Adepeju, a former undergraduate of the University of Ibadan whose life was tragically lost during a police clampdown on a student protest in 1971.

In an official statement released by the Students’ on the 31st of January, the procession was described as a solemn act of remembrance aimed at honouring Adepeju’s sacrifice and reaffirming his enduring significance in the history of student unionism. His death, the Union noted, remains a powerful symbol of the struggle for justice, accountability, and students’ rights within the University of Ibadan and the Nigerian society.

The event was a reaffirmation of the core values of justice, solidarity, and resistance against oppression that Kunle Adepeju’s life and death continue to represent.
