Welcome to a New Dispensation - NAPS Freshers’ Welcome

The joy of resumption in the newly admitted students into the department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ibadan, was cut short by an industrial strike action declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on the 14th of February, 2022. The freshers who had gained admission into the first and best University in Nigeria more than a year before had to wait for several months before the start of a new session that ushered them in. However, their joy was short-lived when ASUU declared a warning strike mid-session, which later became indefinite.

To the utmost joy and satisfaction of these freshers, the strike was called off and the University management ordered all students to resume back to school on the 24th of October 2022. As part of its plans to make the newly admitted students feel welcome, the executive council of NAPS, UI has set aside 3 days for a freshers’ welcome and orientation program. The series of events started on Thursday, 11th November 2022, and is expected to end on Saturday, 12th November 2022.

The first day of the freshers’ welcome and orientation program was tagged “Indoor games day”. The games day started at 10 am at the wooden lounge in the Faculty of Social Sciences. Board games including Ludo, Scrabble, Monopoly, and Chess were played by freshmen of NAPS, UI, and students of other levels were not excluded. This allowed the freshmen to interact and create a good rapport with the existing students in their department.

While we have been assured of varieties of activities by the president, Mr. Awe Oluwadamilare Albert, we desperately look forward to what the NAPS administration has in store for us for the remaining two days of the freshers' week.
