WHO IS A SAPIOPHILE?

By Oluwadarasimi Otunla

Following the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a Sapiophile is defined as someone whose romantic attraction to others is predominantly based on their intelligence. The term "Sapiophile" originates from the Latin word "Sapere," signifying having wisdom, and the Greek word "Philos," meaning beloved. Now, let's move beyond definitions and formalities to explore the world of Sapiophiles.

Sapiophiles are not solely inclined toward romantic attraction, but can also be drawn to individuals who possess above-average intelligence. They derive intellectual stimulation from engaging in conversations with knowledgeable people. A study conducted by a group of psychologists from the University of Western Australia revealed that there exists a specific IQ score deemed ideal for attractiveness. Going beyond this score can make one less appealing while falling below it can also diminish one's attractiveness.

While research suggests that many people are attracted to those with moderate IQs, Sapiophiles have a distinct preference for and appreciation of high IQs. In our academically stimulating environment, let me alleviate some stress by providing you with a few ways to attract a Sapiophile, or identify if you have what it takes to attract one.

1. Authenticity: Sapiophiles value honesty and authenticity, expecting intelligence to be accompanied by a strong sense of morality and maturity.

2. Critical Thinking: They appreciate individuals who can question their values and opinions, as well as those of others.

3. Unique Interests: Sapiophiles are drawn to people with unconventional hobbies and deep knowledge in those areas.

4. Logic and Analysis: They admire those who present facts objectively and acknowledge when emotions might interfere with reasoning.

5. Extensive Vocabulary: A rich and broad vocabulary is appealing to Sapiophiles.

6. Avid Reader and Book Collector: Sapiophiles are attracted to individuals who read extensively and possess a substantial collection of books.

7. Curiosity: A natural inclination toward curiosity is highly regarded.

8. Strong Work Ethic: Sapiophiles appreciate individuals who demonstrate diligence and dedication in their pursuits.

9. Etiquette and Manners: Knowledge of etiquette and good manners is seen as a sign of refinement.

10. Appreciation for Classical Music: Playing and appreciating classical music is associated with intelligence due to the dedication and skill required.

These ten qualities should serve as motivation for further exploration of the topic. It's important to note that Sapiophiles have diverse preferences within the realm of intelligence, so don't limit yourself to just these attributes. These are merely some characteristics that tend to attract Sapiophiles to individuals of interest.
